Ballet Class

Today I couldn't bring Maddie to ballet class as I had a Junior League Retreat that ran from 9:30-2:30. So - Brian was on "dance duty". Considering how well the dance class went last week - I figured that the fact that Brian had to bring Maddie would not be a problem. I got her dressed in her cute little tu-tu and leotard. They were planning to leave the house at 9:30 and I was planning on leaving at 9:20.

Around 9:10, Maddie decided to have a breakdown. She started crying and clinging to me and telling me not to leave and that she didn't want Daddy to bring her to dance class. The weird thing is that Maddie has never cried when I leave the house. She is very easy going about that kind of stuff. She loves to spend time with Daddy and usually doesn't give it a second thought when I leave. So - I had to leave for the retreat with my child screaming and crying and begging me not to go. As I drove away feeling guilty, I couldn't help but think that ballet class would not go well.

Sure enough - when I arrived home I heard the whole story. Maddie spent the first 15 minutes refusing to go into the classroom. She was very clingy to Brian. Then supposedly Brian went and sat down in the classroom and Maddie still refused to participate. Finally after about 20 minutes she joined in. However, she almost got kicked out of class when she told the instructor "no" after she was asked to sit Indian Style.

Have I told you what a good listener she is?

NOT.

Anyway - Brian also mentioned that there were 3 other dads there and all of those children were going in and out of the class room and running to the dads.

At the end of class, the instructor told all the kids that next week they were not allowed to leave the classroom and that Dads were not taking ballet class and they shouldn't be sitting in the classroom. (Good one daddy.) Way to get us in trouble!

Needless to say - ballet class did not go as smoothly as last week. I guess it just goes to say that Mommy's need to be on dance duty.
