Beast

Maddie was a complete beast this morning at ballet. She turned into a monster, and a typical bratty 3-year old. It all started when we arrived at dance. Maddie doesn't like to go in the studio until Ava gets there. I don't like this at all - because there are days when Ava will not be there. Maddie needs to learn that she can't rely on other people to do things.

I told Maddie that Ava wasn't going to come. Maddie told me that she "wasn't going in." However - she didn't just say it. She kind of yelled it and said it in a snotty tone. It was so snotty that it made my blood boil. So I told her that we were going home. I started to remove her ballet shoes to put on her sneakers to go home. She didn't want to do that either. She told me she had to go potty. On the way to the potty she kicked and screamed and told me she wasn't going to dance ever again. She said it in that snotty tone again. So snotty that I wondered if she was really my darling, cute daughter. Where did this beast come from?

I got her on the potty and had a strict talk with her. It must have worked because she finally joined the class. However, for the first 5 minutes she sat on her mat and sucked her thumb and refused to participate. After a while she finally joined in and the rest of the class was problem-free.

When we arrived home she started complaining that she was really hungry. I told her she could have applesauce or a banana. I guess that wasn't good enough because she threw a full blown temper tantrum which ended up with her screaming in her room for about 10 minutes. I finally calmed her down and now she is napping. I think she was totally exhausted and had a complete melt down.

Here's hoping for a better afternoon. I pray that the beast will retreat.
