Diapers in the landfill

When I was pregnant with Maddie, I looked into using cloth diapers. I researched and researched and could only find ONE diaper service. They happened to be located in Kingston. That wasn't exactly going to work out. I ended up using disposable diapers.

When I was pregnant with Aidan, a new variety of cloth diapers had emerged. They were cloth diapers that were very modern. No more big safety pins. No more rubber pants. These cloth diapers had velcro and built-in rubber pants. Pretty cool! They even had cute names like "Kushies", "bum Genius", "Happy Heiny's", and "Fuzzi Bunz". Too cute - huh?

My friend Felice used them with her baby. I talked to her extensively about it. I was sure I was going to do it. I talked to Brian about it. He seemed on board. I researched the prices and read the reviews. I was full steam ahead.

Except, I kind of ran out of steam. My pregnancy dragged on and the cloth diaper thing sounded less and less appealing. Did I really want to wash poopy diapers? Did I want to scrape poop in the toliet? Did I want to be chained to the washing machine making sure that the baby had clean diapers? The answer was NO.

However, I knew the benefits. I wanted to make my mark on the environment and do a good thing. I didn't want Aidan's diapers clogging up a landfill. I really intended to do good. But - I just didn't. Now -today, Aidan is 2 months old. We are using Pampers. I am clogging up landfills. Bad mommy. Bad bad mommy.

Do I get points for at least thinking about it? Probably not.

Oh well...
