Composting

In my effort to be more organic and more "green" - Brian and I have been talking about starting a compost. It started with us throwing out the yucky lettuce in our woods behind our house. I mean - why throw it in the garbage if the bunnies or the deer can eat it - right?

Then this morning Brian was eating crushed pineapple and there was some left in the bowl. He said he was going to throw it in the woods for the animals. So I said -we should start a compost. And he said, "Yes, we should."

I started researching. It doesn't seem that hard to do. Basically you can compost anything like veggies, fruits, yard clippings and coffee grounds. Sounds pretty easy. They recommend a 3x3 area and you need to keep it moist. (That should be easy to do with all the rain we get!) If you really want to get crazy, you can add some worms. Ick. I know. Nasty. But - I think we will just start without the worms. You can even buy a compost container for your kitchen counter and then collect your scraps throughout the day and then dump it later on. Sounds pretty cool. I think we will do it.

Now all I need for him to do is dig me a 3x3 area. Then we are on our way...
