Holy Swiss Army

Our 5 year wedding anniversary is next Friday. It happens to fall the day after my birthday. When we got married 5 years ago, Brian gave me a Swiss Army watch for my birthday/wedding. In turn, I gave him a Swiss Army watch shortly after our wedding. I think it ended up being a birthday present. Anyway, we both wear our watches and we love them.

That is, until, about 1 month ago, Brian's watch mysteriously fell down the vent behind his dresser. In all fairness, the vent cover was off the vent because it allowed the dresser to be flush against the wall. So - if the vent cover had not been off - then the watch never would have fallen down through the vent hole and ended up in the wall.

So - there it was. In the wall of our house. His Swiss Army watch that I gave him. Five years ago. After our wedding. Can you tell that I was a bit upset? Just a bit. Okay - I was VERY upset. Forget about the fact that it was a nice watch. Let's just talk about the sentimental part. I felt hurt. Even though it was an accident, I felt so sad that this watch was just sitting in the wall of our house. Sitting there. And nothing was being done about it. Brian did not want to talk about it. I suggested some options on how we could get it. He kind of shut down. He didn't want to face facts. Maybe he was upset too? Probably.

Anyway, this week, he decided he wanted to talk about it. He told me he wanted a new Swiss Army watch for our anniversary. However, before I went off and bought a new one, he actually made an effort to get the watch back. He borrowed a snake line tool from our buddy Bruce. Then he taped the hook part of a hanger to the snake tool and snaked it down the vent into the wall. He fished around, and fished and fished. Probably for about 10 minutes. And wouldn't you know. He got the watch! I couldn't believe it. It was a little miracle.

Maddie was jumping up and down and told Daddy that he was "amazing." I was jumping up and down and so happy. And - the watch is fine. Still ticking. No damage. It's like it never happened.
