Renie and Jerry (Maddie's daycare providers) went to Alaska for 2 weeks and 2 days. They are back now. And they have tons and tons of photos. It made me want to jump on a plane and go somewhere nature-like. Brian and I used to do that stuff. We hiked all over Yosemite National Park. We went to the Redwoods. We drove down the west coast from Oregon to San Francisco. We have been to Lake Tahoe and Ireland and countless other places. We used to go camping and we used to drive up to the Adirondacks to do a day hike, and we even hiked Whiteface. We almost made it to to the top - but a rainstorm kept us from our goal.
Now we go to the Jersey Shore. That has been our vacation for the last 4 years. We have a good time - especially going with our friends and renting a big beach house. But - I miss our fun travels to exotic and gorgeous places. I guess when you have kids - the vacation becomes a beach trip. It is easier to pile the kids in the car and drive a few hours and probably more economical. But - that still doesn't make me miss our vacations and our nature hikes. I can't even tell you the last time we went on a hike. Probably 5 years ago before we bought our first house.
When we first got married, I wanted to go to Italy for our 5 year wedding anniversary. Well - our 5 year anniversary is next April. That means we will have a 4 month old baby. So - I guess Italy will have to wait. We will be lucky if we get a night out for dinner! Maybe for our 10 year.
