Brown and Blue

Okay - I promise that I will try to make this my last post about the quest for the perfect crib bedding. You won't hear about it again until the room is done and I post the photos. (I hope).

Anyway - I decided that I didn't need to buy a whole crib bedding set. I came to this conclusion this morning when I was driving to Liberty and Monticello. I was driving there for work and let me tell you - if you have never been to that part of New York State - then don't bother. First of all- it is 2 hours away. Second of all - it is totally rural and during one part of the drive you spend 26 miles on Route 209. It is curvy and only 2 lanes, and if you get behind a truck - you are out of luck. I have to go there every few months and every time, I moan and groan and grumble.

Anyway - back to the subject at hand. I was driving and daydreaming about crib bedding. I actually started to think that I really didn't need a baby quilt. After all - the baby doesn't use the quilt. Maddie never used her quilt and when she was finally ready to use a blanket - she wanted something more comfy than a stiff quilt. I always meant to hang up her quilt for a wall decoration - but I never ended up doing that either. The quilt just kind of hung over the side of her crib not serving any purpose.

Then I started thinking - did I really need the bumper? Technically babies aren't supposed to sleep with bumpers either. However - I am not igoring the fact that the bumper makes the crib look sooooo cute. So - I came to the conclusion that - yes - I did need the bumper. Did I really need the diaper stacker? After all - I have a changing table with shelves and that is where the diapers should go. So - even though the diaper stacker is a nice touch - I definitely do NOT need that.

I finally decided that all I needed was curtains, a crib skirt, a crib sheet and a bumper. Then I started thinking that I could probably find all this stuff and put it together myself.

So - after my long day in the car I came home and went to Latham with 2 destinations in mind. One was Baby Depot and the other was Babies R Us. I have to say that I was totally impressed with Baby Depot. It is located inside Burlington Coat Factory and they have EVERYTHING. So - I ended up with a few sets of curtains and nothing else. I headed off to Babies R Us and then I found that they sold crib bumpers and crib skirts separately! Who needs a crib set? I didn't even know that Babies R Us sold the skirts and bumpers separately - in all different solid colors. Perfect! So - I matched the skirt and bumper to the curtains that I bought at Baby Depot and then I found a few crib sheets and off I went.

I think that I got what I needed. When I got home Brian looked at it all and said something about the room being a bit boring if it was just khaki with no theme. However- I think I have moved away from the idea of a theme. Maddie never had a theme. Plus - I think that Khaki and blue will be something that a baby can grow into when he turns 2 -3 years old and goes into a bigger bed. I am picturing khaki with blue and a bit or red. I think I can make it work.

I am sure you will hear otherwise if it doesn't!
