Pacifier Debacle

Maddie was NOT a pacifier baby. I was not against the pacifier. It was just that she didn't want anything to do with it. She spit it out and found something else to use - her thumb. This was great in the beginning. She found her thumb and calmed herself down and I didn't have to do anything to soothe her.

Of course the thumb is not so great when your kid is 3+ years and she still sucks it! But- that is another story.

Back to the pacifier. I was determined that Aidan was NOT going to be a thumb-sucker like his sister. So, I have been really pushing the pacifier. He likes it most of the time. However, we have an ongoing battle with it. Sometimes he spits it out and then he has a fit when it is gone. Then I have to find it and put it back in his mouth. Then he sucks on it and then he spits it out again. Then he wails. Then we go through the whole saga again, and again, and again. Until, finally he falls asleep.

I also use the pacifier as a cue to know when he is hungry. If he is really chomping on it, then I know he is looking for some milk. He is also very picky about which pacifier he uses. We have multiple pacifiers in the house - but we have discovered that he has his favorites. There are only two of the favorites, and they seem to always go missing. I think Miss Maddie might be the culprit to that.

Anyway - the pacifier debacle goes on and on. He is a much better pacifier baby than Maddie was. However, we have been known to catch him chomping on his fingers and his thumb! Just once in a while. MMMM. Stay tuned for details on that.
