Arizona - the pros and the cons

Every year I have to go to Arizona for work. It isn't so bad. In fact, it's kind of nice to get away. We go in April when it is just starting to get nice here. How glorious it is to go somewhere warm and be able to wear sandals and feel the warm sun on my face. Usually by the time I get back, the weather in Albany has turned for the better and we are in full springtime mode.

This year, I really didn't want to go. After all, Aidan will only be 4 months, I am still nursing and it means leaving Brian home with 2 kids. On top of that, I leave on April 14th and come back on the 17th. This means I will be gone for my 35th birthday and for our 5th wedding anniversary. Not to mention that Maddie is on April break that week. The whole thing is just not ideal.

But - you gotta do what you gotta do and I have to go. It's a work thing. It's mandatory.

I booked my flight over the weekend. We need to be there by noon on the 14th. This means that I can leave Tuesday morning since I gain 3 hours when I fly out west. It also means that I leave at some ungodly hour on Tuesday. I land in Phoenix at 11:20. Then it's off to the resort for an afternoon full of seminar stuff. I should be a walking zombie that day.

Coming back on Friday, I don't get home until 11 at night.

Don't get me wrong. It is fun to go. It's fun to see other colleagues from all across the country. It's fun to stay in a top-notch resort. In fact, the resort we are staying at this year is some place new. The cool thing about it is that it has a water park! Fun stuff. We get wined and dined and there is always a huge awards ceremony/dance fest on the last night we are there. It's a lot of fun.

I have mixed feelings about going. Leaving a 4 month old will be hard. Yet - it's only for 4 days. It's good to get away. Yet - I will have to drag the pump to Arizona and pump all week and then throw away the breast milk. That stinks.

But - you gotta do what you gotta do. Stay tuned for more mixed emotions on the subject as it gets closer.
