Age

Maddie has been talking about her birthday for quite a while. She knows that she is 3 1/2 and she knows that her birthday is in May. She always talks about how she is going to be four years old and how her cousin Alyssa is 5.

Today we took a new turn.

We were driving home from school and she said, "Mommy - how old are you?"

I answered her and told her I was 34.

Then she said, "How old is Daddy?"

I said that Daddy is 36.

She pondered this for a moment. She said, "34 and 36. Okay mommy. Thanks for telling me." Then she started talking about her birthday again.

It made me stop and think. I remember as a little girl, I always loved to know how old people were. I used to think that people in their 50's and 60's sounded so very old. Ha! Not anymore.

Maddie is realizing that her parents are a certain age too. She is discovering the concept of "age" and that and it made me feel a bit weird. It was just kind of a strange conversation to have with her. I am not sure why I felt that way - but it was just an odd moment. Maybe it just made me realize that she is grasping more stuff than I realized. She is growing up.
