Stares in Church

We have been taking Maddie to church since she was an infant. We go every week. Now that Aidan is here -we take both of them. Usually - it's no big deal. We sit in the balcony and hope for the best. Of course, there have been some incidents. Maddie has been cranky, or she has had to go potty, or she is just not in the mood to sit still. However, it's never really an issue.

This past Saturday, we decided not to trek all the way up in the balcony and we sat downstairs. We ended up sitting next to another family that happened to have 3 boys. Anyway - Aidan started being very chatty. He started bouncing up and down on Brian's leg. He was clapping and saying "Da-da" and squealing with happiness. Normally this is very cute. However - not so cute in church.

I tried to quiet him down. But - it's kind of hard to quiet a 9 month old baby - right? The annoying part of this story is that there was this one man who kept looking over his shoulder at us. He was kind of giving us "the look." You know what I am talking about. The look that people give parents when they are clearly annoyed at a loud/annoying/bratty kid. In defense to Aidan - he was not being bratty or annoying. He was just being - well - he was being a baby that was chatty.

But - that's not the worst of the story. The people that we were sitting next to - the family that have 3 boys - well - they started being REALLY loud. One of the kids was whining and just being all around loud. So - the man who was giving us "the look" - was now giving the other family a more menacing look. Let's just say - I was relieved when mass was over. I felt like we were caught in kid hell and I felt even more annoyed that the man was giving us the look. I mean - it's not like our kids were being out of control. Maddie was quiet and for the most part - behaving. Aidan was behaving too. He was just being chatty.

Anyway - I guess it's just one of those things that happens when you are a parent.
